Village Lighting Event Launches the Holiday Season
At Fishermen’s Village on the Punta Gorda Waterfront
Promising to delight children of all ages, the elves and Santa’s helpers at Fishermen’s Village are inviting the community to a traditional Lighting of the Village celebration and an evening of holiday music, displays and décor.
Starting at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, Fishermen’s Village will shimmer with a million twinkling lights throughout the grounds and strollway of the famous waterfront shopping and dining complex. The cheeriest season-opener ever will continue through 9 p.m., setting the pace for holiday events that will unfold nearly non-stop through New Year’s Eve. The evening features Punta Gorda’s own Boogiemen Band, Charlotte Chorale Dicken’s Carolers, Luis the Balloon Man, Lee County Pipes & Drums, Florida Dance Workshop and, of course, SANTA! Admission is a nonperishable food item donation to help Share the Blessings Ministries fill area food pantries.
The village calendar is fuller than Santa’s sack with a glittering variety of ongoing and unique events. Harbor cruises, traditional music, holiday carolers and choirs, and Christmas characters will gather at the mall throughout the season. Santa and his elves are planning a score of visits so the youngest visitors can get their wishes in early.
In addition to the unique shopping, dining and the relaxed resort amenities that Fishermen’s Village is famous for, dozens of free community events, including the Angel Tree for needy children, will be featured throughout the season.
“Fishermen’s Village absolutely loves the holidays,” said Marketing and Events Director Kathy Burnam. “We have the setting, staging, and special events that will delight families, the community, visitors, and – of course our pets – every day of the season,” she said.
The mall complex has been organized into three holiday styles. The Whoville section will feature Seuss characters and the playful side of the season that is synonymous with kids, toys, and fun. In another section, drifts of fluffy snow, snowflakes, and silver bells will evoke a winter wonderland. In the traditional section, the village will deck the halls with swags of holly green and berry red.
“Whatever your favorite winter theme is, Fishermen’s Village will have it,” Burnam said. “Whether it’s Horton, the Grinch and Santa for the kids, winter white, or pinecones and evergreens, we promise a feast for the eyes, music for the spirit, and community connections that reflect the true meaning of the season,” she said.
The Lighting of the Village celebration is a free community event, 5:30 – 9 p.m., at Fisherman’s Village Center Court. Unique holiday shopping, dining, and music promise a memorable and enjoyable evening for one and all.
