A lesson in Facebook

I had the privilege of attending a Facebook lunch-in this past week. We were pleased to see that our Facebook fan page http://www.facebook.com/fishermensvillage was prided on its persistent posts and avid comments and used as an example in the meeting. Yet mid-way through the meeting a statistic reared its head that was shocking, most business fan pages average 5 posts a week! I soon came to the realization that Fishermen’s Village who averages 5 posts a day was over publicizing. Our marketing director found that our “likes” on Facebook were down and we just could not understand how or why, Fishermen’s Village was posting now more than ever! It was overkill and redundant, so Fishermen’s Village cut their posts to and average of 2 posts a day, including a variety of picture, video, and tag posts. You can check your fan pages interaction and post quality on the actual fan page. By cutting down about 2/3 of our posts and increasing the quality, Fishermen’s Village’s fan page increased from 35-45 interactions to 85 in a matter of days! Facebook posts are about quality not quantity. 🙂
