Fishermen’s Village staff attended a wonderful meeting this morning where Wayne Sallade, the Emergency Management Director for Charlotte County, tried to lay out the facts about oil coming into our waterways and onto our beaches. Wayne explained that the powerful loop current and the continental shelf are acting to keep the oil away from Southwest Florida. Mr. Sallade has put together some short videos about Charlotte County and the Oil Spill that can be viewed by clicking on this link: http://charlottecountyfl.com/Emergency/oil.asp
If you are concerned about immediate impact of oil to the Gulf Coast Beaches, you can look at the NOAA projections maps. The latest one shows the oil hundreds of miles away from us: http://response.restoration.noaa.gov/book_shelf/2229_TMF24-2010-06-23-2100.pdf
Englewood, Sanibal, Siesta Key, all the most beautiful beaches in the area are still beautiful. The weather is warm! Come to Florida to enjoy what the locals love.
